SBW Agreement
Marriage Licence
You must present your AB marriage licence before the ceremony can be performed. You cannot be married without it.
Important Reminders:
-
Check your marriage licence for mistakes before leaving the Registry. The officiant can't correct it.
-
Must have any two adults (over 18) who understand English to witness and sign the licence.
-
If anyone is drunk or on drugs, the wedding can't happen.
Changes to Agreement
If you need to change the wedding date, time, or location, then notification must be done in writing. The officiant must approve the changes.
Cancellations
-
If you cancel at least 60 days before the wedding, you'll get a refund, except for the $150 retainer.
-
If you cancel less than 60 days before the wedding, you must pay the full fee.
-
If you don’t inform the officiant in writing, you'll have to pay the full fee, including travel costs if applicable.
Postponements
Postponing the wedding requires the officiant’s approval and depends on their availability on a future date. Fees may increase if the wedding is moved to the following year.
If the Officiant Becomes Unavailable
If the officiant can't attend due to an emergency (e.g., hospitalization), they'll try to find a replacement at no extra cost. You will get a full refund, including the deposit if the officiant can't attend.
Punctuality
The wedding must start at the scheduled time. Arrive 20–30 minutes early to complete paperwork. If the ceremony starts more than 20 minutes late, the officiant may have to leave due to other commitments and return later. A late $50 fee will be charged for every 20 minutes the wedding is delayed if Officiaint can stay.
Outdoor Ceremonies
Provide a map for outdoor locations, including parking. Have a backup plan in case of bad weather.
Sound System and Microphones (50 or more guests)
It’s your responsibility to provide working sound equipment. You may want to hire a DJ to provide a sound system, a lavaliere (small wearable microphone for the officiant) and a mic for the couple. This must be arranged ahead of time.
Privacy
Sharon Barwick Weddings Inc. will not share your personal information with anyone.
Photos and Testimonials
The officiant may use photos or stories from your wedding for promotion unless you ask otherwise in writing. Testimonials on Google or Wedding Wire are appreciated.
Rituals and Specialized Ceremonies
You must provide the equipment and set up any ritual equipment before the ceremony. (e.g., sand, hand-fasting, Family Vow Ceremony, etc.)
Out-of-Town Weddings
For weddings outside Calgary, bring a copy of the ceremony script and your marriage licence in case the officiant can't attend. A guest could read the script, and the officiant would handle the legal paperwork afterward.
